ChorusOz® was created by Brett Weymark to allow those who couldn’t commit to a regular choir the opportunity to sing once a year on a world class stage. It has since become a fixture in the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ calendar, and in 2020 we are taking it to the Sydney Town Hall.
ChorusOz® is an opportunity for singers of all levels to immerse themselves in a major choral work over a full weekend, culminating in a performance of the music. 2020 will be the 15th year of ChorusOz® and we will welcome people from across Australia and the world to enjoy the experience of singing Verdi’s Requiem at the Sydney Town Hall led by Elizabeth Scott, Music Director of VOX and experienced choral conductor. Participants will share the experience with 700 other passionate singers, world class soloists and the Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra. This is a life-changing experience and one you will never forget.
Preparing for the weekend
No audition or assessment is required, however, the ability to follow a score will be an advantage. You will need a basic understanding of music and musical terms. It is expected that you will use the score, text and teaching tracks provided as part of your registration to prepare yourself before the weekend.
Scores and Music
Scores will be available for posting or download from mid-November 2019.
Teaching tracks will be provided to guide you through the music and assist with your preparation. These will also be available from mid-November 2019.
Those who register by 16 December 2019 will receive their score before Christmas 2019 (Australia only).
Vocal Range Guide
Please note the representation of the vocal ranges below. For Verdi’s Requiem there is little difference between 1st parts and 2nd parts. Those on first parts should be confident sustaining long notes in tune near the top of the range for a number of bars.
