Festival Chorus is the largest of the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, with 400 passionate singers who come together twice a year to perform works from a diverse musical range. 2019 performances included Music from the Movies and Dvorak’s Requiem.
2020 is a very exciting year to join Festival Chorus as you can be involved in our Centenary season and join us as we celebrate 100 years of singing and music-making together. Festival Chorus will sing in two fantastic programs at the Sydney Town Hall; Mendelssohn’s Elijah, a grand oratorio starring Teddu Tahu Rhodes as Elijah and featuring a symphony orchestra and other leading Australian soloists on Saturday 9 May, and A Centenary Celebration, our epic mid-year event which takes place in three exhilarating acts and shares the story of Sydney, the diversity of our culture, and the rich musical heritage that has been bringing us together since 1920. This program features a world premiere work by distinguished Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin.
No other company provides you the opportunity to sing the great choral works in the stunning surrounds of historic Centennial Hall in the Sydney Town Hall alongside a symphony orchestra, soloists and under the baton of our skilled Music Directors.
Come along to our Festival Chorus Open Day and participate in a three-hour workshop, led by our Music Director Brett Weymark. Explore your voice, brush up on your choral skills and get some tips on how to sing. During the workshop, there will be a small group audition where we will assess your singing ability and determine your vocal range for placement into Festival Chorus. No preparation required.
Our next open day will be on:
Sunday 12th January, 2020
Please note, we are only able to accept TENORS and BASSES at this Open Day. All Soprano and Alto spots in 2020 have been filled.
