In addition to our own season and the Sydney Symphony season we are also available for hire. Throughout the year we perform around Sydney in civic events, concerts, private performances, corporate events, film and tv scores, festivals and much more. To find out more about hiring the choir
The Gauntlet
A tonal experiment like no other Formations of singers will create musical phrases and tones that echo around the Joan Sutherland Theatre staircase and foyer. Their accompanying gestures create waves of sound and movement as the 50 performers pass around each musical note to create an utterly submersive soundscape. With music by Sxip Shirey and choreography by Coco Karol; lyrics are inspired from interviews with Sydney’s cultural, social and environmental activists about global, local and personal issues. The Gauntlet explores the body as an archive of personal knowledge, creating an intimate choral chamber sharing the experience between the performers and you. Performed in August 2018
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince™ in Concert
Relive the magic of Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts™ School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, accompanied live by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Watch Harry become a wiz at potions, win Felix Felicis and uncover the meaning of Horcruxes! Nicolas Hooper’s wonderful score and J.K. Rowling’s classic tale combine to deliver all the adventure, humour and suspense you remember in an experience you will never forget.
Last Night of the Proms
Wear your red, white & blue, grab your flag and your friends then head to the Sydney Opera House for the Last Night of the Proms! It’s the annual audience favourite where you can belt out ‘Rule, Britannia’, stomp your feet, wave your flag and join in the merriment celebrating the finest in British classical and popular music. Guy Noble conducts the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and special guests in a concert filled to the brim with best-loved melodies (for all ages!) including Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
Festivals
Sydney Philharmonia Choirs regularly perform in Sydney’s most iconic festivals. We have sung in the ever-popular Symphony in the Domain as part of the Sydney Festival alongside the Sydney Symphony, in the VIVID Festival as part of the Ignite concerts at the City Recital Hall and in Precipice, an experimental recording commissioned by AFTRS. We are regular guests in the Sydney Greek Festival and this year performed under conductor George Ellis.
Bennelong- Bangarra
Members of our young adult choir, VOX, were commissioned by Bangarra Dance Theatre to record music for the highly acclaimed 2018 production of Bennelong. The music, composed by Steve Francis, was described as “a hugely important and persuasive element” of the production.
City of Sydney Carols
We are honoured to sing each year in the City of Sydney Christmas carols. Our singers perform across the city during November and December, sharing the spirit of Christmas and activating many of the city’s busiest shopping precincts.
Lambs of God
Members of our auditioned choirs will feature on the soundtrack to Foxtel’s original series Lambs of God, premiering in 2019. Lambs of God is a dark, gothic tale about three nuns, each a generation apart, living in an isolated convent by the coast, and an unwelcome visitor who enters their lives and changes their world forever.
